So what is the deal with
Classic Space Australia

Firstly we are all about Classic Space Lego and LEGO itself!

Classic Space Australia (classicspace_australia or CS_A) originated in 2018 launching first on Instagram and then Facebook.

Classic Space Australia is based in NSW, Australia and holds the vision of:
‘changing the world one brick at a time’

Classic Space Australia is all about showcasing the LEGOLAND Space theme, better known to most as Classic Space Lego (or Lego Classic Space).
For more on the history of Theme’s, including Classic Space please visit LEGO’s site by clicking here.

So what you will see displayed, reviewed, and talked about here is of course Classic Space Lego.

So Why Classic Space?

Here comes the inspirational story!
It all started with the set 6928, The Uranium Search Vehicle , released in 1984 with 191 parts and two minifigs.

I remember seeing and playing with set as a child, but it was owned by my half-brother. It was the biggest vehicle and most agile set he owned. We would always MOC up a space station and a castle scene and have wars.
My half-brother (now passed away in a tragic accident in Holland) owned a lot of the Classic Space before it was passed down to me.
For some 20+ years it remained stored, traveling from my parents attic to mine.
UNTIL one rainy easter holiday weekend.
I needed something to entertain my then 3 and 1 year old.
I thought to myself, what did I do that was fun as a kid that they will enjoy…

LEGO!!!

I climbed up into the roof cavity, dragged down and then opened the dusty bag and there was The Uranium Search Vehicle.

The memories of playing with my half brother flooded back and there in the middle of our little lounge room in front of my children (the new LEGO generation) was a crying grown man, weeping not only over the LEGO but over the long lost connection between me and him.

So What Now?

For the past few years (since 2015) I have been building, collecting, moc’ing and displaying Classic Space Lego.

I have had a lot of fun seeking specific sets and parts from across the globe. I must admit I am transfixed on the traditional colour scheme of Blue, Light Grey and Trans-Yellow and have build my displays around it. Even my MOC’s or Lego Colour Flipped sets majorly stay within these three colours.
I am always on the lookout for Good Quality space bricks, plates, torso’s or logo’d parts.

Currently I display with a local Recognised Lego User Group (RLUG) called Rainbow Bricks.

A lot of people have asked me about displaying.

Why do I display?

The reason I signed up to display was so that I could take part is sharing the fun of LEGO with others.
Nothing beats having kids waltz past and their eyes widen with joy at what creations they see before them. The creative prospect of LEGO is amazing!
BUT the greatest moments are when I hear the Mum’s and Dad’s say to their children ‘look this is the LEGO I played with when I was your age!‘ The conversations I have from there are great.
We as an RLUG donate all funds received from our shows to local schools and other charities, basically it’s ‘changing the world one brick at a time!’

All we receive is a thank you from LEGO and the smiles and applause from those that visit us!

The Future

I am looking to continue to display. Especially the Classic Space sets, MOC’s and Colour Flipped sets I’ve created.

The Classic Space Death Star was a huge investment both time and resource wise. I still dream of creating my ultimate goal – The Classic Space Millennium Falcon.

As long as I see people engaging with Classic Space Lego I will try to keep posting, displaying, building and thinking about crazy ideas that involve those little bricks and minifigures that date back 40+ years.
